Jakarta's public transportation system ranked 15th globally, second in Southeast Asia, and seventh in Asia, according to the Time Out 2026 survey. About 79.2 percent of respondents gave positive ratings to the capital's public transport services.
If possible, add more train cars
This achievement is backed by the integration of various transit modes, including the MRT, LRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and Mikrotrans. In the future, the Jakarta government is committed to expanding connectivity into satellite cities to ease commuter mobility and parse traffic congestion.
Jakarta Legislative Council Commission B Member Wa Ode Herlina lauded the progress in city transit connectivity, emphasizing that seamless transfers between modes are key to shifting commuters away from private cars.
Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT Serves 100,343 Passengers“The current schedules are looking solid, especially in terms of on-time reliability,” she expressed, Monday (10/26).
However, she stressed that transit capacity and intermodal links must keep expanding to meet growing public demand.
She specifically called for adding train cars to the Jakarta LRT to boost passenger capacity.
“If possible, add more train cars. Right now there are only two, but three would be better,” she explained.
Beyond expanding capacity, Wa Ode stressed strengthening LRT links with feeder transport for easier intermodal transfers.
She hopes improved integration will encourage more people to switch to public transit daily.
“Thus, more people shift to public transport,” she said.
